Teeth ( extractions)

This is not a picture of my greyhound, wish my greyhound's teeth had been nearly this nice when we adopted her.  Sadly, our greyhoubnd's teeth were not in good shape. We tried all we could at home, brushing, different toothpaste, any of the ' this works better than anything else for your dog's dental care' products. We tried cleaning not only her teeth, but making sure to swab and clean her gums. In time, her breath just became worse and worse and her gums were constantly inflamed.  We asked the vet to check her teeth ( again) and came to the quick decision to have teeth extracted BECAUSE we wanted her to be healthy. The month leading up to the scheduled appt and dental surgery we did worry about many things, what if she doesnt do well with the anesthesia, what if...
Finally the day arrived and we had a huge snow storm, making driving horrible. When we arrived at the vet office our fur friend knew something was up and refused to walk back to the cage without me and I had to place her in the cage, she was not going in there for the staff.  WHAT a long day waiting for a call. Needless to say, all went well, they told us she had to have fourteen teeth extracted. Wow!
She had a pain med for the first two days at home and an antibiotic for one week. She only had bloody drool for one day, much less than we expected. We soak her kibble to soften it, but she generally gulped her food even before extractions. One week after, what we notice is, her breath is nicer than ever before, she drools much less, she is happier, bouncier, more alert, more full of energy, more at peace. The teeth were obviously causing her discomfort.  Knowing what we now know, and GETTING through the extractions and worries, we would have had those bothersome teeth extracted much sooner.
update months later:
Greyhound is happier, more at peace, less drool,,no more unpleasant breath,  no problems with eating.. we moisten her food, grate fruits or veg, or cook them.
